Styling Your Home to Sell

"You don't get a second change to make a first impression"

When it comes to selling your home, presentation is everything.  An open home is your chance to show your home at its best, and with some key tips, you can maximise your chance of achieving multiple interested buyers and driving up the sale price of your property.

So where do we begin?

Street Appeal

This can mean the difference between someone being excited to view your property, or them driving past and not even leaving their car.  Here are some helpful ways to enhance your property's street appeal:

  1. Make sure your property number is clearly visible from the street.
  2. Tidy the footpath outside your property, trimming any overgrown plants, removing weeds and of course mowing the lawn.
  3. Don't forget your fence! Remove any cobwebs or unsightly dirt.  Consider a fresh coat of paint for an instant facelift!
  4. Clean all windows
  5. Ensure all light fixtures are in working order

Maintenance

No one wants to move into a property where they feel like there is a lot of work ahead of them.  Fixing some simple issues will enable potential buyers to picture themselves moving in as is.

  1. Check all doors open and close efficiently
  2. Consider re-grouting
  3. Patch any holes in the wall
  4. Replace dim / blown light bulbs

Clean

Perhaps the most important of all steps, a clean home for your open is non-negotiable.

  1. Vacuum and mop the entire property
  2. Clean windows, as well as the tracks and frames
  3. Dust all surfaces
  4. Look up! Clean inside light shades and check corners of your home for cobwebs.
  5. Make sure your cupboards are neat and tidy, especially your pantry and linen cupboard as buyers won't be afraid to look inside.

Depersonalise & Declutter

  1. Remove most family photos that are on display
  2. Minimize keepsakes and display shelves to only a few pieces
  3. Ornaments on side tables should be in small groups
  4. Beds should be made neatly, with pillows in an arranged fashion.

Make it Light, Bright & Breezy

  1. Open all windows
  2. Turn on all lights
  3. Remove any heavy curtains if they are restricting natural light from entering the home

Final touch? Fresh flowers in the kitchen / dining area will give the impression that your home is loved, well looked after and adds a sense of calm.
